The Collaborator

Manufacturer-friendly jambox for The Museum of Making Music

  • Objectives: Create a multiplayer, electronic, musical instrument for “casual” users, using only unmodified consumer-accessible hardware.

  • Contributions: Collaborative activity design, collaborative casework design, interaction design with Cycling 74’ Max, sound design with Ableton Live, and installation.

  • Status: Installed April 2023.

  • Additionally: A fifth player can join remotely from any web browser using a virtual instrument constructed around MIDIAble. This interactive was reformatted to a smaller scale after the closing of the MIDI@40 exhibit, in order to continue on as a permanent piece.
