Controllerism performance system for artist Mickey Hart of Dead & Company (The Grateful Dead)

  • Objectives: Rebuild the electronic side of Mickey’s legendary Drums & Space rig from scratch including dynamic playback of Mickey’s compositions, all processing of The Beam, and a host of electronic percussion instruments, all powered by a bank of five networked computers and other hardware.

  • Contributions: System architect (selecting and configuring all hardware), interaction design with Cycling 74’ Max, sound design with Ableton Live and many 3rd party plugins, custom hardware design with Yaeltex, and controller programming with Behringer X-Touch Compact & MIDI Designer Pro.

  • Status: Completed April 2022.

  • Additionally: Various other music-tech contributions for Mickey’s wide array of projects, including engineering credit on the Planet Drum album In The Groove.
